For the purposes of immigration, the European Economic Area (EEA) is divided into 2 sections. Nationals of the 1st section may live, work and travel in the UK without restriction. However, if you are a national of one of these countries and you wish to live and work in the UK for an extended period, you may find it useful to obtain a registration certificate, as it can often make subsequent applications, for example for naturalisation, considerably easier. The first section of the EEA comprises the following countries (not including the UK itself):

If you are a national of the 2nd section, comprising Romania and Bulgaria, you must acquire an accession worker card if you wish to work in the UK, unless you fall under one of the exempt categories.
