Resident Return Visa

Applications should be made for a Resident Return visa if the permitted period of travel on your permanent visa has elapsed or is about to expire. The visa will permit you to leave and enter Australia as required, whilst retaining your Australian citizenship or permanent status.
You will be eligible for the 5 year Resident Return Visa, if:

• you are an Australian permanent resident or
• you are a former Australian permanent resident whose last permanent visa was not cancelled or revoked or
• you are a former Australian citizen who either lost or renounced their citizenship

You will not be eligible for this visa if your last permanent visa was a defined Business Skills visas and it was cancelled or is subject to cancellation.
You will be eligible for a 3 month Resident Return Visa, if:

• you have been residing in Australia for less than 2 out of the last 5 years as a permanent resident
• you have valid reasons for leaving Australia for any periods of more than 3 months (eg: for compassionate leave).

Family members travelling on your passport may be included on your application. If a family member holds their own passport, they will need to apply independently and will be subject to an application fee.
