See Migration Migration Migration is defined as: The process or act of migrating. In context of Australia, this refers to the process by which migrants can leave their current countries of residence and take up residence of Australia. The proper use of the terms “migration” and “immigration” is dependent on the perspective. Both deal with the same subject, but from opposite ends of the action. Migration refers to the act of leaving ones home country. Immigration refers to the act of arriving in ones adoptive country. Therefore, a Migration agent in the UK handles exactly the same type of application as an Immigration agent in Australia, and vice versa. In usage, these terms are often confused or used incorrectly, but are generally understood to refer to the same process. Migration Agents Registration Authority The Migration Agents Registration Authority (The MARA) helps to uphold the position of Australia’s migration agents as amongst the most professional in the world by ensuring that they have high level knowledge of Australian migration law and procedures, as well as
meet high professional and ethical standards. The MARA can help consumers with finding an agent and advisee about the fees that agents might charge, and may also be able to help if there is a dispute between the agent and the client. MARA registration is mandatory for all agents operating within Australia. Migration Institute of Australia The Migration Institute of Australia aims to be the premier migration association by providing excellent service, advocating the benefits of migration and advancing the standing of the migration profession. The institute publishes a newsletter to its members, announcing regulation changes and provides a discussion forum for migrants and agents. Because of its position in the migration profession, the institute is also seen as a contributor when discussions are sought by government when new policies or regulations are formulated. Membership of MIA is not mandatory. Migration Occupations in Demand List This is the list of all the occupations that are currently considered to be in demand in Australia, on the grounds that workers skilled in these occupations are in shortage. An occupation appearing on this list indicates that additional points can be awarded to the applicant in the points test, provided the applicant has been positively assessed in this occupation by the relevant Skill Assessing Authority, and has worked in this occupation for at least 12 months within the 4 years immediately applying for the visa. |
