Australia Immigration Steps

Australian Visas

Categories of visas range, sifting through which subclass you qualify under and which is best suited to your circumstances and intentions can be a very complicated process.

1st Contact makes it easy for you to understand. We have broken the migration application process down to a few main steps:

STEP 1: The Most Suitable Visa for YOU
1st Contact will assess and determine the most suitable Australian visa to suit your circumstances for migration. There are 3 main types of visas: skilled migration, employer sponsored migration and family migration.

  1. Skilled Migration – This is based on your skills, particularly your qualifications and work experience and the current demand for such skills in the Australian work force.
  2. Employer Sponsored Migration – This is based on an Australian employer deciding they require your specific expertise to fill a position.
  3. Family Migration – This allows you to migrate to Australia as the family member of another Australian citizen or permanent resident.

STEP 2: Application Preparation and Submission
Some visas are a 2-stage application process, while others require only one submission. Applications which require 2 separate applications are generally occupation/skill-related visas (Skilled Migration Visa and Employer Sponsored Migration Visa). The initial application requires an assessment of your skills, and once skills have been suitably assessed you are then in a position to lodge your application for your Australian visa directly to the Department of Immigration.

Collecting all the correct documentation in the correct format and providing it to the appropriate authority at the right time can be confusing, which is why we will guide you through this process from start to finish. Depending on the type of application and the complexity of your case this step can take 2 – 18 months to complete, so timing of your submission is of the utmost importance!

STEP 3: Visa Evidencing and Final Preparations
Once your visa application is complete you can then have the visa endorsed into your passport and make the final arrangements for travel. Some visas for Australia are label free which means you can travel to Australia without the visa label being endorsed into your passport. On arrival Australia’s border security will recognize your passport and visa status.

Usually you will have a generous period of time in which to enter Australia. This can be as long as 10 months and will be specified on your visa. This will give you plenty of time to tie up your affairs.  It is only at this stage that you should consider selling, or packing up your house, resigning from employment, booking flights and making final arrangements.
