Federal Skilled Worker Program
This visa class is the most popular way of migrating to Canada. As a result, the processing time is greatly increased as compared to the provincial nomination programme. This federal program enables skilled workers to obtain permanent residence in Canada without an offer of employment or a sponsor.
To be accepted as a skilled worker you will need to have work experience which is transferable to the Canadian Labour Market, sufficient funds to settle and a score of 67 points out of 100 on the selection grid. You will be assessed according to your education, language, work experience, age, arranged employment and adaptability. To integrate into Canadian life more effectively you will need to possess good communication skills in either English or French.
Please note: It is advantageous, but not a prerequisite of this visa class, to have an offer of permanent employment. You will then be exempt from meeting the financial requirement for this visa class. It will also earn you bonus points on the selection criteria and your application will be processed more quickly.
Family members
You and your accompanying family members will need to be of good character and in good health.
