Skilled Regional Sponsored Visa subclass 475 (Designated Area Family Sponsored)
An applicant may qualify for the skilled regional sponsored visa if:
- they are skilled in an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL) and ,
- they are a family member of an Australian citizen or permanent resident who lives in a designated area of Australia, (this is not the basis of the application but a fact that makes a positive contribution to the Skilled application).
This visa is not to be confused with Family Visas, which are visas that rely entirely on the applicant’s relationship to an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
The basic requirements for a Skilled Regional Sponsored Visa subclass 475 (Designated Area Family Sponsored) visa are as follows:
- Applicants must be under 45 years of age when the visa application is lodged.
- They must have sufficient English language ability for working in Australia.
- They must have their skills assessed by the relevant assessing authority for the nominated occupation before the application is lodged.
- They must nominate an occupation that fits the applicant’s skills and qualifications when applying.
- The applicants’ nominated occupation must be on the Skilled Occupations List (SOL). If the nominated occupation is not on the list, a visa application cannot be lodged.
- They should have worked in a skilled occupation for at least 12 months in the 2 years before applying.
- The visa applicant must score at least 75 points in the points test.
- The applicant must be sponsored by an Australian Citizen or permanent resident living in a designated area of Australia.
The applicant, or the applicant’s spouse or partner, must be related to the sponsor as one of the following:
- a non-dependent child – including an adoptive or step-child;
- a parent – including adoptive or step-parent;
- a brother or sister – including adoptive or step-siblings;
- a niece or nephew – including adoptive or step-niece or nephew;
- an aunt or uncle – including adoptive or step-aunt or uncle;
- a first cousin;
- a grandchild.
The successful applicant and all included dependents will be granted provisional residence for 3 years upon first entry to Australia and will be required to demonstrate that they have met the residence and work requirements as stipulated by the visa conditions in order to apply for Permanent Residence.

Skilled Regional Sponsored Visa subclass 475 (State/Territory Sponsored)
This visa is intended for applicants who want to live and work in Australia, who are skilled in an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL), but who do not meet the requirements of the subclass 175 or 176 visa application.
An applicant for this visa will be required to:
- show that they are skilled in an occupation that is in shortage in one of the regions within the individual states of Australia.
- work and reside in the sponsoring state for a minimum period of time, usually 2 years.
The basic requirements for a Skilled Regional Sponsored Visa subclass 475 (State/Territory Sponsored) visa are as follows:
- Applicants must be under 45 years of age when the visa application is lodged.
- They must have sufficient English language ability for working in Australia.
- They must have their skills assessed by the relevant assessing authority for the nominated occupation before the application is lodged.
- They must nominate an occupation that fits the applicant’s skills and qualifications when applying.
- The applicants’ nominated occupation must be on the Skilled Occupations List (SOL). If the nominated occupation is not on the list, a visa application cannot be lodged.

- a non-dependent child – including an adoptive or step-child;
- a parent – including adoptive or step-parent;
- a brother or sister – including adoptive or step-siblings;
- a niece or nephew – including adoptive or step-niece or nephew;
- an aunt or uncle – including adoptive or step-aunt or uncle;
- a first cousin;
- a grandchild.
